Service Description

Acupuncture for infertility shows great results both in men and women. It is a successful treatment in restoring fertility by improving sperm quality and ovaries function and balancing the endocrine system and hormones. Over 3.5 million people in the UK go through some kind of fertility challenges. Problems that are possible to arise in men are abnormal sperm, low sperm motility, or low sperm count. Causes can be genetic factors, long-term use of steroids, age, obesity, stress, inflammation of the testicles, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and other diseases. In women problems that can arise are polycystic ovarian syndrome, hyperprolactinemia, thyroid problems, hormonal imbalance, poor egg quality, cancer, AIDS, etc. Risk factors and causes are age, obesity, eating disorders, smoking, alcohol, stress, infections, and others. By the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) infertility occurs due to disrupted vital balance and blockages in the Qi energy and Blood circulation flow. When the free flow of energy is blocked, it can cause deficiency, stagnancy, or heat syndrome. Acupuncture can be used to increase your chances of conceiving, whether you are planning for a natural or assisted conception ( IUI, IVF ). Fertility Acupuncture works in three main ways: by mediating the release of chemicals that send messages from the brain - called neurotransmitters - that affect reproductive hormones and organs; by stimulating blood flow to the uterus, thereby making embryo implantation more likely, and by boosting production of chemicals that inhibit stress hormone levels. For women, fertility acupuncture treatment can help to regulate hormone function; increase blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, and help to relax your muscles which can improve the chance of an embryo implanting. It also regulates the menstrual cycle and helps improve the quality of eggs released and the lining of the uterus. For men, fertility acupuncture increases sperm motility (how fast the sperm swim), as well as increases levels of the male sex hormone testosterone, and lowers the temperature of the scrotum (where sperm are stored), creating a better environment for keeping them healthy. During an acupuncture session, fine needles are inserted into the skin at various acupuncture points in the body to produce a therapeutic effect. The exact acupuncture points and the number of needles used vary from person to person, and they are typically left in place for around 30 to 45 minutes.
