It also regulates the menstrual cycle and helps improve the quality of eggs released and the lining of the uterus. For men, fertility acupuncture increases sperm motility (how fast the sperm swim), as well as increases levels of the male sex hormone testosterone, and lowers the temperature of the scrotum (where sperm are stored), creating a better environment for keeping them healthy. During an acupuncture session, fine needles are inserted into the skin at various acupuncture points in the body to produce a therapeutic effect. The exact acupuncture points and the number of needles used vary from person to person, and they are typically left in place for around 30 to 45 minutes.
